Latest Sightings

The first of our winter visiting duck species has arrived from the continent this week in the form of 3 Pintail males, which were spotted on the main mere today. Other birds seen on the main mere this week include 8 Pink-Footed Geese, 1088 Greylag Geese, 1766 Canada Geese, 12 Gadwall, 2 Cormorants, 6 Tufted Ducks, and 20+ Swallows.
Along the path towards Janet Kear hide, 1 Chiffchaff was heard today. At Janet Kear hide itself, 2 Wren, 1 Dunnock and 1 Coal Tit were seen.
Further down the path from the Harrier hide, 100+ Black-Tailed Godwits, 290 Lapwing, 4 Little Grebes, 2 Little Egrets, 4 Shovelers, 2 Lesser Black-Backed Gulls, 10+ House Martins, 1 Blue Tit, and 1 Kingfisher were observed.
1 Grey Heron flew across the path toward Gordon Taylor hide today. From the hide itself, 4 Pied Wagtail, 7 Stock Doves, 1 Little Ringed Plover juvenile, 1 Buzzard, 1 Kestrel, 8 Linnet, and 12 Starlings were spotted.
6 Cetti's Warblers were seen flittering through the trees along the reedbed walk today, vocalising loudly with their unmistakeable song.
From Ron Barker hide on Tuesday, 2 Hobbies were observed flying fast through the sky. Today, 16 Ruff, 2 Green Sandpipers, 5 Ringed Plovers, 1 Water Rail, 2 Marsh Harriers, 12 Coot, 79 Teal, and 7 Cattle Egrets were spotted.
