Cranes-Great Crane Project

Again today there was a lot of activity around the reserve, at least 15, perhaps 18 birds present. Pairs include Monty and Sedge, Bart and Ruby, Cotton and Oakie (plus a tag along Evie who is being driven away), Squidgy and Billy, Wendy and Albert and new in are Bombus and Bop Bop. We also have the Slimbridge reared Crane chick with an unknown and 3 unknowns that flew through North.

Holden Tower

Highlights included Ringed Plover, Grey Plover, Little Stint with 200 Dunlin, 214 Golden Plover and 60 Lapwing over the high tide. 40 Canada and 158 Barnacle Geese and Peregrine.

Tack Piece

At least 96 European and 5 Greenland White-fronted Geese, 400 Wigeon, 15 Shoveler 49 Shelduck.

Rushy Pen

2 female Greater Scaup, 50 Pochard (now a more balanced sex ratio), Pintail 70, Shelduck 67.

Zeiss Hide

9 Avocet, 200 Wigeon, 4 Snipe, 4 Redshank, 40 Lapwing.

South Lake

2 Avocet, 4 Oystercatcher, 2 Great Crested Grebe, 60 Black-headed Gull, 5 Cormorant, 2 Little Grebe and a variety of wildfowl.
