Spoonbill, 2 Common Terns, 148 Black-tailed Godwit, 16 Ruff, 4 Redshank, 3 Avocet (2 juvenile), 1 Green Sandpiper, 2 Spotted Redshank

2 Reed Bunting fledglings, Mute Swan with 4 cygnets, Great Spotted Woodpecker and Stock Dove calling in the trees left of hide, Cettis Warbler singing

South Finger

Reed beds mostly silent now but Reed and Sedge Warbler still present. Chiffchaff and Blackcap feeding above Buddleia bush and Common Whitethroat above Kingfisher nesting bank on Elder berries. Roe Deer

Bittern, 32 Dunlin with 5 of them Juvenile birds, Singles of Avocet, Green Sandpiper and Snipe. 30 loafing Lapwing

Thursday 23 July

South Lake Discovery Hide

On the deep lake section (North or left side of hide) a male Lesser Emperor was patrolling the shore line below the hide and two male Red-veined Darters settling on the flowers on the bank, c20 Small Red-eyed Damselfly on the algal mats.

Tack Piece

Wood Sandpiper feeding on the scrape with a Common and 10 Green Sandpipers.

Middle Point/Summer Walkway area

Around the pillbox and wheelchair accessible ramp- 15 Yellow and 4 Pied Wagtails, juvenile Stonechat, juvenile Reed Bunting, charm of Goldfinches, c20 Swallows.


Wednesday 22 July

Tack Piece

2 Shelduck, 10 Gadwall, 3 Teal, 3 Moorhen, 1 Lapwing, 1 Common Sandpiper, 8 green Sandpiper, Greenshank, 3 Ruff, 39 Black-tailed Godwit, 1 Grey Heron, Yellow Wagtail and 23 Pied Wagtails

Dumbles

16 Curlew, Kestrel, Peregrine Falcon, 10 Cranes hundreds of swallows and house martins feeding!

Dumbles Scrape

2 Stock Doves, 2 Little Ringed Plover, 1 Green Sandpiper

Decoy Hide

Both adult Kingfishers are taking fish into the nest hole of far SW side of the pond

Rushy Hide

3 Spotted Redshank, Green Sandpiper, 6 Ruff, c30 Black-tailed Godwit, 2 Avocet and Snipe among the birds on the lower pond

Top New Piece

Spoonbill, Great Egret, 48 Dunlin, Sparrowhawk, Avocet, Green Sandpiper, 2 Cranes and a quick sighting of a Bittern.

South Lake

60+ Lapwing including the partially leucistic individual 'LAPPACHINO' (pictured below MJM)

Green Sandpiper, Tack Piece.

Kingfisher update at the Decoy Hide

A pair continue to feed young at the nest bank on the far SW side of the pond, bank is hidden but the ash branch in the water nearby is used a perch before entering and exiting the nest hole. Also a Clouded Yellow here today. 

South Lake

Little Grebe, Little-ringed Plover, 4 Redshank, Black-tailed Godwit, Green Sandpiper, c20 Teal, 140+ Gadwall. 

Tack Piece

Early morning- 2 Brown Hare, Common Sandpiper, 5 Green Sandpiper, male Ruff, Snipe, Redshank, 6 Black-tailed Godwit, 2 broods of Gadwall, a small flock of Teal, 7 Lapwing. 

Estuary Tower

Breeding plumage male Bar-tailed Godwit feeding on the mud off the Dumbles with Curlew, single Crane on the Dumbles with Pied and Yellow Wagtails, Linnets and Goldfinches in the drying scrape.

Rushy Hide/Peng Observatory

Early morning- Little Grebe, 70 Black-tailed Godwit, 3 Spotted Redshank, 4 Avocet, 2 Green Sandpiper, 13 Ruff, broods of Gadwall, Shelduck and Tufted Ducks. A Snipe late morning. Three terns, probably Common flew over. At least three Hummingbird Hawk Moths outside the hide and Estuary Garden area.
