Car Park Works Tuesday 3rd & Wednesday 4th March

During these dates, parking spaces may be restricted to allow contractors to safely and effectively carry out line painting. Please be mindful that diversions may be in place, and accessible parking spaces may be temporarily relocated to other suitable areas during the works. At times, access to the site may be via the Orchard car park. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Todays Sightings

Rushy

Five adult Avocet, 2 fully grown young and 2 newly hatched young all very active.

Robbie Garnett

Dominated by the Green Sandpipers, there were 18 here this morning. No sign of the Blue Headed Wagtails but two Little Egret were very close.

Holden Tower

Good high tide, lots of Gulls including at least 4 Yellow Legged Gulls, hard to see the Curlew but at least 110, the only other waders were a pair of Redshank apparently protecting young ( a very late brood).

Zeiss Hide

Avocets dominating here as well 24 birds with a mix of adults and full grown young plus a new brood of 4 that have just hatched. Among them were32 adult Dunlin. About 40 Teal and a handful of Shoveler were noteworthy and the Reed Warblers are very active in the reed bed below the hide.

South Lake

Looking very busy with masses of adult and young Black Headed Gulls plus lots of scruffy moulting ducks including lots of Gadwall and Shoveler. The Black Tailed Godwit flock numbered 101 with 62 Redshank including at least 6 fully fledged juveniles. Look hard because among them is an adult Reeve (female Ruff) and a single juvenile Dunlin my first for the year. The Common Terns are feeding two chicks and there are young Great Crested and Little Grebes.
