Today's sightings- record Pintail count
Holden Tower/Tack Piece
A huge flock of Pintail (at least 1300 birds) present on the River Severn at midday with 275 on the Tack Piece at the same time. The majority of the European White-fronted Geese were also present by this afternoon as well as the 5 Greenland White-fronted Geese. The latter were seen in the NE corner of the Tack Piece early morning.
Large flocks of Golden Plover contained a breeding plumaged individual and a single Grey Plover. The Lapwing flocks were equally as impressive with thousands of birds. Up to 14 Ruff were seen among the Lapwing with 40+ Redshank on the Tack Piece. 800+ Dunlin had at least one Little Stint among them.
The Bewicks's Swan flock (c140 birds) spent the day feeding on the Tack Piece and Dumbles with c30 in the Bottom New Piece (viewable from Kingfisher Hide).
The Peregrine Falcon was around for much of the day, a single male Stonechat was on the Middle Point fence. The 2 Greater Scaup were viewable from the Robbie Garnett Hide at midday but moved back to the Rushy Pen by late afternoon.
South Lake
3 Avocet and 4 Oystercatcher were with the 300 Lapwing and 150 Black-tailed Godwit. A Great Crested Grebe could be seen among the diving duck.
Rushy Pen
2 1st winter Greater Scaup early morning/late afternoon. 150 Pochard and 200 Tufted Duck, small numbers of Lapwing and Redshank. Bewick's Swans at the roost before heading out and returning for the night. The Pink-footed Goose was seen at 0815.
