Mere Tun

Step back in time and get a taste of the life of Vikings, Saxons, and Celts at our Mere Tun. Our village is now open to visitors each day (after 2:30pm on weekdays if in use by a school).

Experience the life of a wetland settler

Step inside our brand-new longhouse and see the life of a wetland chief and take a look at our roundhouses where villagers would work and sleep.

Discover the different uses of wetland materials

Wetlands are filled with plenty of raw ingredients, used in food and drink, medicines, textiles, and buildings. Learn more about how these natural ingredients were utilised in everything from making the roundhouses to creating natural painkillers.

Inspired to visit?

The Mere Tun is included as part of the standard admission costs for visitors (WWT members enter for free).
