Café kitchen closure

From 8–17 September, our café kitchen will be closed for refurbishment. During this time, our front-of-house will remain open, offering a selection of cakes and ice cream, sandwiches, and drinks. You will also be able to visit our kiosks by the play areas.

32,300 Pink-footed Geese

After a week of apparently declining Pink-footed Geese numbers today early morning count produced 32,300(!) the highest count so far this year. Most birds leave the reserve early on and then filter in from around midday onward.

A flock of 40+ Golden Plover flew through the reserve late morning, an unusual sighting here. Other waders included 500+ Lapwing, 30+ Ruff and some Snipe.

A juvenile Peregrine put on a show by having a go at assorted birds including a Pink-footed Goose and Carrion Crows. Marsh Harrier, 3+ Common Buzzard, Sparrowhawk and Kestrel all present.

The single Bewick's Swan was on the Mere with c170 Whooper Swan.
