Hide closure: Sunday 9 November

No access to Ron Barker, Hale and Mere View Hides
Unfortunately, we have had a recent case of avian influenza, commonly known as bird flu, in our collection birds. To prevent further spread of the disease, we are putting in place some additional protection measures, which includes testing the birds in our duckery. To allow our teams the time and space to do this, we’ve temporarily closed this part of the wetland reserve and will reopen on Monday 10 November.

Bird News

Still jam packed with Pink-footed Geese although no counts. No additional Whooper Swans currently just 4 on the reserve, two new arrivals from yesterday and the two that over summered.

Raptor reports included 3 Marsh Harrier, 15 Common Buzzards (from yesterday), Peregrine, 3 Kestrel and Sparrowhawk. Unconfirmed report of two Red Kite today? If anyone has photographs of these that would be excellent.

It's been said before on here, but if you do see anything you think is unusual do call in and report the sightings at the in focus shop. It means that the sightings get disseminated quickly on here and for local or national rarities via the bird news services.

There are paper reporting notice boards around the reserve but they are not always checked daily.

Six Swallow south yesterday.
