Bird News

The Green-winged Teal seen this morninig from the Ron Barker hide was almost certainly the one which has spent most if not all of this Winter at Martin Mere, although it has been a number of weeks since it was last reported.

The current weather seems to have stalled the wader passage a little, with numbers of Avocets, Ruff, Black-tailed Godwits, Oystercatchers, and Lapwings staying fairly constant through the week. 2 Dunlin and a Ringed Plover were also present today.

As far as Spring migrants are concerned, at least 2 Chiffchaffs are present in the area around the Janet Kear and Harrier hides, but a change in the weather will be required to kick-start the new season !

A Peregrine has been putting in the occasional appearance on most days recently, and a male Sparrowhawk has been a regular sight from the Janet Kear hide, showing exceptionally well at times.

At least 2 Little Egrets are now pretty much permanent features on the reserve
