Bird News

Another lovely day to be birding with the only down side being a reduction in visibility resulting from the 'heat haze'.

No reports of the Dark-bellied Brent today although the Pink-footed Geese flocks have been absent for most of the day so the bird may still be in the area.

Raptors today included a green wing tagged Common Buzzard, Peregrine, Sparrowhawk and Kestrel. A ring-tailed Hen Harrier was also reported.

Avocet numbers dropped to 14, perhaps as a result of the harsh over night frost. Still 70+ Ruff, 30+ Oystercatcher, 2 Ringed Plover, 6 Black-tailed Godwit and a very unexpected Woodcock which flew across Top Mere towards the Nature Trail.

Stonechat on Plover Field. Great-spotted Woodpecker from the Janet Kear Hide.
