Bittern again

Bittern again

Looks like there is a Bittern hanging around on the reserve at the moment. The bird was first seen, assuming it's the same one, on the 20th Sept and again today feeding in a ditch between Woodend Marsh and Long Meadow.

The first family party of Whooper Swan came in late morning, 2 adult and 2 young. There will be plenty more to come in the coming months. The weather looks set for bringing in many more Pink-footed Geese in the next week or so. In fact there were at least 10,000 roosting on the Mere this morning.

Great views of Peregrines (juv + adult pair) throughout the day. Not surprising really with 2500+ Teal on the menu. Usual raptors with 2 Marsh Harrier, 2+ Commmon Buzzard, Sparrowhawk and Kestrel.
