At least 40 European White-fronted Geese dropped in early afternoon, joining 300+ Greylag grazing around the Mere. Locally all the Greylag Geese are assumed to be feral birds, although historically 'Icelandic' Greylag were thought to occur in the north of the county. Twenty four Barnacle Geese mostly feeding on Plover Field with Pink-feet and Greylag.

Far better conditions for raptor viewing today, consequently more were seen. An adult and immature Peregrine were feeding on a fresh kill in front of the Ron Barker Hide this morning. At least 2 Marsh Harrier, ring-tailed Hen Harrier, 4 Common Buzzard, 2 Kestrel and 2 Sparrowhawk. No surprise to see a Barn Owl out hunting at 13:45 as the past few days would have been extremely difficult for this species.

Goldcrest in among a mixed Tit flock which contained ~ 10 Long-tailed Tit feeing along the Nature Trail.

Some big flocks (5000+) of Wood Pigeon starting to build up around woodland close to the reserve.
