Café kitchen closure

From 8–17 September, our café kitchen will be closed for refurbishment. During this time, our front-of-house will remain open, offering a selection of cakes and ice cream, sandwiches, and drinks. You will also be able to visit our kiosks by the play areas.

Geese and Raptors

Very active across the reserve today with 10-15000 Pink-footed Geese back on the reserve by early afternoon and more roosting. In with the Pink-footed Geese singles of Greenland and European White-fronted Geese and two Barnacle Geese.

Three Marsh Harrier and 2 Peregrine causing a commotion across the reserve with assorted Teal, Wigeon, Mallard, Pintail and Gadwall being flushed onto the Mere.

The usual waders with 600+ Lapwing, 20+ Ruff, 30+ Snipe and a Green Sandpiper from the Harrier Hide.

At least 800 Black-headed Gull coming in onto the Mere. A few Common Gull with them.

Cetti's Warbler heard on the Reed Bed from the Reed Bed Walk.

At least two Kingfisher active from the Ron Barker Hide and sometimes from the UU Hide.

As usual it should be possible to see at least 50 species of bird in a day without too much effort, although a telescope is very useful from most of the hides.

If you are visiting the reserve, pop in to the in focus shop (next to the Discovery Hide) where we have a full list of birds, and should be able to point you in the right direction to get the most out of your visit.
