As the warm weather closes in, the birds here on the reserve at Martin Mere are out in abundance. Some birds, such as the 7 Cattle Egrets that were observed from the main mere on Wednesday, are now entering their breeding plumage.

1 Ruff, 8 Teal, 195 Lapwing and 5 Avocet chicks were counted on Tuesday from Woodend Marsh. 1 Raven and 2 Grey Heron were also seen on Plover Field.

Today and on Wednesday, a variety of bird life has been observed on and above the main mere, including 4 Common Tern, 1 Avocet, 1 Great Crested Grebe, numerous Oystercatchers, 2 Marsh Harriers and 1 Hobby.
