Despite the summer solstice the autumn migration has started!

On Woodend Marsh the first juvenile Icelandic black-tailed godwits have arrived on site. Also on Woodend are wood, green and common sandpiper with 6 green sandpiper observed from Gordon Taylor on Saturday. The juvenile avocet can also been seen still on Woodend. Now fully grown they are fueling up ready for their migration to Africa in a few weeks.

Hobby are also being regularly sighted on the reserve with the best views from the hides overlooking the mere, Ron Barker and United Utilities. The marsh harrier pairs on site are also very active at present with the pair which have a nest on Vinsons seen food passing. Quite the spectacle and easily seen from Ron Barker hide.

The juvenile kingfisher are also showing well from Ron Barker hide at present as well.

Whilst enjoying a coffee (other beverages also available) from the cafe, look out for the swallow nests on the main building as many of the pairs now have well grown chicks that are constantly being fed by the parents.
