Latest Sightings
The week so far at Martin Mere has been busy with a wide variety of bird life present here on the reserve. The dawn counts this Wednesday yielded 5111 Pink-Footed Geese, 435 Whooper Swans and 11 Canada Geese. 720 Greylag Geese were also counted in the morning.
From the discovery hide this week, 3 Mute Swans, 1 Little Egret, 2 Great White Egrets, 10 Cormorants, 3 Ruff, 2 Black-Tailed Godwits, 1 Herring Gull and 1 Peregrine were observed.
Along the path towards Janet Kear hide, 1 Dunnock was spotted. Further along from the Harrier hide, 1 Blackcap, 2 Lesser Black-Backed Gulls, 3 Tufted Ducks, 6 Gadwall, and 131 Black-Headed Gulls could be seen.
On the reedbed walk today, 5 Cetti's Warblers, 42 Starlings, 1 Buzzard, 2 Reed Buntings, 12 Long-Tailed Tits, and 3 Goldcrest were heard and seen. 1 Rook was also spotted in the distance being mobbed by gulls and crows.
2 Grey Wagtails, 2 Kestrels and 5 Skylark were spotted along the trail leading to Tomlinson hide today, whilst 1 Pied Wagtail, 5 Snipe, 400+ Teal and 150+ Lapwing were present at Gordon Taylor hide.
3 Barn Owls were seen from the Ron Barker hide on Wednesday, along with 2 Water Rails and 9 Marsh Harriers.
