The Ring-Necked Duck continues to be reported from Discovery hide overlooking the mere. From this hide (192) Black-tailed Godwits were observed on Saturday, many of which are starting to come into their brick-red breeding plumage. Also present on the mere over the past couple of days were Ruff (13) Great White Egrets (2), Tufted Duck (24), Pochard (26), Avocets (2).

The Glossy Ibis was reported over at Ron Barker hide on Saturday and can often be seen amongst the Cattle Egrets. Ron Barker hide is also a good spot to view Barn Owls. On Saturday a Siskin was reported outside this hide, as well as Janet Kear.

At the latter hide, 10 Redpoll were also seen on the same day. While you can expect to also see Goldfinch, Blue tit, Great tit and Reed Bunting from the Janet Kear hide.

Both Little Grebe and Great Crested Grebe (2) were present at Harrier Hide over the weekend, as well Pochard (10), Shelduck (21) and Shoveler. Three Cetti’s Warblers were also heard calling from this hide.

Down at Gordon Taylor, Avocets (20), Oystercatchers (20), Teal (50), Black-Headed Gulls (220) And Marsh Harriers (3) have been reported over the last couple of days.

Finally, a male Bittern continues to be booming and can often be heard on our reedbed walk.
