During the sunny weather today we have had a visiting Red Kite which was seen over at Ron Barker Hide. It flew across the reserve before getting caught up in a brief ariel fight with a Marsh Harrier. 4 Curlew were also seen over at Ron Barker Hide

We've had a variety of birds showing well at Discovery Hide. This includes 2 Common Sandpiper, 1 Oystercatcher, 1 Common Tern and 4 Mediterranean Gulls. On the Mere, 1 Whimbrel could be seen and heard calling. Although similar to the Curlew, a Whimbrel is much smaller in size with a smaller curved beak too.

There has been a slight increase in Wheatear out on the Reserve. Although small and hard to spot they can occasionally be seen from Ron Barker Hide. At Janet Kear Hide, a Blackcap was seen on the path. Meanwhile, on Woodend Marsh, Redshank and Avocets continue to show well. Lapwing chicks have begun to hatch out on the reserve too, they are hard to spot but could be seen from United Utilities Hide.
