Latest Sightings
The week so far on the reserve here at Martin Mere has been bright, sunny, and abundant with bird life.
1 Lesser Whitethroat was observed yesterday along the path to Tomlinson hide - a first for the year. 1 Whinchat male was seen from the path as well.
Many birds were spotted on Tuesday from the car park, including Greenfinch, Oystercatcher, 10+ House Sparrows, 20+ Swallows, 5+ Sand Martins, 3+ Stock Doves, Starling, and Pied Wagtail.
On the mere this week, 4 Tufted Ducks, 1 Spoonbill, 2 Common Terns, 1 Swift, 22 Black-Tailed Godwits, 5 Avocets, 25 Gadwall, 3 Marsh Harriers, and 1 House Martin, and 8 Cormorants were seen.
2 Wood Sandpipers were spotted from Rees hide yesterday - another first of the year. 1 Little Ringed Plover, 4 Ruff (one in summer plumage), 1 Ringed Plover, and 1 Redshank were also recorded.
On the path to Janet Kear hide today, 1 Mistle Thrush, 1 Mediterranean Gull, and 1 Treecreeper were seen and heard. 1 Song Thrush was heard in the collection grounds.
2 Buzzards were spotted from United Utilities hide today. From Ron Barker hide yesterday, 1 Osprey (another first for the year) was seen flying over the hide.
