Latest Sightings
Its been quiet on the Reserve this week in the hot weather! On Tuesday we braved the heat to move our English Longhorn Cattle, our large herd can be seen from United Utilities, Rees, Gordon Taylor and Tomlinson Hides. The smaller herd can be seen from Ron Barker along with around 5 Cattle Egrets.
There are lots of Dragonflies and Damselflies showing well around the reserve, large numbers of Banded Demoiselles can be seen around the sluice at Gordon Taylor Hide. A Hobby was seen from Ron Barker Hide, along with Marsh Harriers feeding young and Great White Egrets. A Kingfisher has been showing well on the perch in front of the hide, with photographers getting excellent pictures!
Over at Woodend Marsh, we have had success with our Redshank chicks fledging, as well as the Mediterranean Gull chicks but the adults can still be seen coming in to feed them. The Bitterns are still being seen occasionally flying in and out of the Reedbed. A Green Sandpiper could be seen briefly from Discovery Hide at the back of the Mere today.
