Latest Sightings
Another busy day around the reserve with signs of migration starting to build. A juvenile Cuckoo showed this afternoon from the Ron Barker Hide. Plenty of sightings from there with 2 Wood Sandpiper still, Little Ringed Plover and 20+ Ruff. A Garden Warbler was seen from there moving along the ditch. Other warblers included Whitethroat, Blackcap and Chiffchaff.
A Green Sandpiper flew onto the Mere mid afternoon. At least 300 Lapwing present, 5 Black-tailed Godwit and a few Common Snipe, including one grabbed by a Sparrowhawk on the Mere.
Raptors included 3 Marsh Harrier, 6+ Common Buzzard, 4 Kestrel and male and female Sparrowhawk.
More Sand Martin feeding around the reserve than of late.
