Latest Sightings
A good selection of birds over the weekend with 6 species of raptor seen. Four different Marsh Harrier (2 imm + 2 juv), imm female Peregrine, 8+ Common Buzzard, 3 Kestrel, 2 Sparrowhawk and Hobby.
Wood Sandpiper from the Ron Barker Hide on Saturday but elusive, at least 2 Green Sandpiper from the Harrier Hide and also from the Hale Hide. Common Sandpiper, 15+ Ruff, 5 Black-tailed Godwit, 5 Dunlin, 4+ Common Snipe and 250+ Lapwing.
Cuckoo again from the Ron Barker Hide after going missing for a few days. Kingfishers showing on and off there.
Other birds included Little Egret, 8+ Grey Heron, 60+ Teal, 15+ Shoveler. Blackcap calling opposite the in focus shop. Also present Willow Warbler, Chiffchaff and Reed Warbler.
Thirty four Emerald Damselfly on the small ponds just past the Sewage Works on the Reed Bed Walk. Also Ruddy Darter, Common Darter, Brown Hawker, Southern Hawker and Black-tailed Skimmer.
