Thursday 11 and Friday 12 December

Some of our birds will be off display on Thursday 11 and Friday 12 December, while vets carry out some routine health checks. If you would still like to visit us on these days, admission tickets will only be available on arrival and will be reduced to £10 an adult and £5 a child.

Migration

Fairly chilly in a brisk South-Westerly plenty of evidence of migrants still present and new birds arriving.

Little Ringed Plover on the Mere, also Common Sandpiper and 5 Curlew dropped in to join 6 Redshank, 3 Ringed Plover, 7 Black-tailed Godwit, 4 Oystercatcher and 8 Avocet. Plenty more waders around the rest of the reserve including breeding plumage Ruff.

The male Whinchat is still present from the United Utilities Hide. Three Yellow Wagtail and c20 White Wagtail between Woodend Marsh and the the Ron Barker Hide. A few Wheatear distantly in fields beyond Woodend.

Blackcap singing near the in focus shop this morning, more in the grounds. Reed Warbler between Gladstone and Janet Kear Hides.
