More Spring

Glorious day with light winds and blue skies.
No wildfowl counts. Still big numbers of ducks, in particular, Wigeon, Teal, Mallard and Shelduck. At least 100 Pintail on the Mere, 80 Pochard, 50 tufted Duck, 2 Goldeneye and Scaup again on Saturday. Over 100 Whooper Swan during the day and 1000+ Pink-footed Geese dropping in during daylight hours.
Oystercatcher continuing to build with 17 birds in today. Over 1000 Lapwing, 60+ Ruff, 10 Black-tailed Godwit and Redshank.
Six species of raptor over the weekend 5+ Buzzard, 2 Marsh Harrier, Peregrine, Merlin, 2 Kestrel and 2 Sparrowhawk. Barn and Tawny Owls showing most days.
A few Skylark having sing practice from the outer reserve pathes. Stonechats still present on fench posts on Plover Field. Water Rail from the Ron Barker Hide.
It is possible to see over 60 species in a day atr WWT Martin Mere. An up to date list of species can be seen at the in focus shop and you can also find out were the best spots are for particular species and also report your own sightings which help us compile these reports.
