No access to Ron Barker, Hale and Mere View Hides

Unfortunately, we have had a recent case of avian influenza, commonly known as bird flu, in our collection birds. To prevent further spread of the disease, we are putting in place some additional protection measures, which includes testing the birds in our duckery.

To allow our teams the time and space to do this, we’ve temporarily closed this part of the wetland reserve and will reopen on Tuesday 18 November.

We’re very sorry for any disappointment this may cause. If you have any questions, please do ask our team.

Pectoral Sandpiper

Pectoral Sandpiper from the United Utilities Hide this afternoon. It can be elusive in the longer vegetation. Little Stint again from the Ron Barker Hide.

A single Barnacle Goose present on the Mere with 4000+ Pink-footed Geese, also present a pale (leucistic) Pink-footed Goose.

Two Peregrine hunting this morning, 3+ Marsh Harrier, 5+ Common Buzzard and Sparrowhawk.

Kingfisher again from the Ron Barker Hide. Little Egret from the Harrier Hide.

The forecast for the next couple of days looks interesting for a potential arrival of Whooper Swans and more Pink-feet. Watch this space or better still come along and watch the birds arrive!
