Hide closure: Sunday 9 November

Unfortunately, we have had a recent case of avian influenza, commonly known as bird flu, in our collection birds. To prevent further spread of the disease, we are putting in place some additional protection measures, which includes testing the birds in our duckery. To allow our teams the time and space to do this, we’ve temporarily closed this part of the wetland reserve and will reopen on Monday 10 November.

Peregrines

2 Peregrines were seen several times around the reserve today, normally very obvious this time of year they have been scarce this autumn and not seen as often as normal. The usual Common Buzzard, Kestrel and Sparrowhawk were all seen today.

Large numbers of Whooper Swan on the reserve today, with at least 800+ on the Mere, small numbers of Pink footed Geese in the area today. Two Stonechat on the fenceposts from UU hide, 2-3 Great spotted Woodpecker around Janet Kear feeding station.
