Café kitchen closure

From 8–17 September, our café kitchen will be closed for refurbishment. During this time, our front-of-house will remain open, offering a selection of cakes and ice cream, sandwiches, and drinks. You will also be able to visit our kiosks by the play areas.

Spoonbill fly over

A Spoonbill flew over the reserve ~ 1pm. There has been a bird being regularly seen on the Ribble Estuary and we would assume that this was the same bird.

Green-winged Teal is present with Eurasian Teal in Langley's Brook from the Ron Barker Hide. Immature Goosander from there along Boathouse Sluice and Water Rail.

Some early afternoon sightings of two Barn Owl from the Ron Barker Hide.

Raptors included 3 Peregrine, 2 Common Buzzard, Sparrowhawk and just off the reserve Merlin.

The first Barnacle Geese of the year were seen yesterday with a least 15 birds present with Pink-footed Geese.

Waders today included 700+ Lapwing, 70 Ruff, Dunlin and Black-tailed Godwit.

Two Common Gull with Black-headed Gulls on the Mere were new for the year.

Other reports included Brambling, Treecreeper, Goldcrest and Redwings.
