Hide closure: Sunday 9 November

No access to Ron Barker, Hale and Mere View Hides
Unfortunately, we have had a recent case of avian influenza, commonly known as bird flu, in our collection birds. To prevent further spread of the disease, we are putting in place some additional protection measures, which includes testing the birds in our duckery. To allow our teams the time and space to do this, we’ve temporarily closed this part of the wetland reserve and will reopen on Monday 10 November.

Spoonbills drop in.

A breezy weekend with a little rain passing through. Highlights included 2 Spoonbill today which hung around for a short while late morning / early afternoon before disappearing. Possibly these were the same birds seen a few weeks ago. Wood Sandpiper again on Saturday although no reports today. Woodend Marsh has plenty of habitat to hide a wader or two.

Moody Mere Saturday afternoon.

Again reasonable numbers of Black-tailed Godwit with 70+ birds on the Mere, 20+ Avocet, 6 Redshank, 20+ Oystercatcher, 100+ Lapwing.

Little Grebes had 3 new hatched chicks on Saturday, Great-crested Grebe still from the Harrier Hide, also 3 Little Egret there.

Plenty  of House Martin and Swift feeding over the reserve.

A Noctule Bat was seen flying over the Reedbed in the evening on Saturday.

If you see anything on the reserve or would like to know the best spots call in at the in focus shop, next to the Discovery Hide.
