Spotted Redshank

A proper autumn feel today as the air mass is coming from the North but blowing a brisk westerly. A classic date for a good wader or two with a Wilson's Phalarope turning up today in 2009. Nothing quite as rare but a Spotted Redshank which flew onto Vinson's Marsh is new for the year.

Also new for the year Nuthatch with a mixed flock of tits and a few Treecreeper and Chiffchaff in the grounds.

Other waders included Greenshank, 10 Black-tailed Godwit, 11 Dunlin, 4 Ringed Plover, 3 Little Ringed Plover, 7 juv Ruff, 3 Redshank and 300+ Lapwing.

Raptors included 2 Marsh Harrier, 4+ Common Buzzard, 4 Kestrel, Sparrowhawk and juvenile Peregrine.

Great at the moment for catching Yellow Wagtail with 15+ birds flying in this afternoon. At least 30 Pied Wagtail (and perhaps some juv Whites?) near the Sewage Works this morning. At least one Wheatear present on the reserve tracks and a few Meadow Pipit moving.
