Café kitchen closure

From 8–17 September, our café kitchen will be closed for refurbishment. During this time, our front-of-house will remain open, offering a selection of cakes and ice cream, sandwiches, and drinks. You will also be able to visit our kiosks by the play areas.

Blue skies and sunshine to start the day. Plenty of butterflies and dragonflies on the wing. The first Gatekeepers of the year near the Harrier Hide.

 Some counts around the reserve included Little Grebe, 2 Grey Heron, 3 Cormorant, 2 Mute Swan, 3 Pink-footed Geese, 3 Whooper Swan (these last two species are here as a result of injured birds over summering), 29 Greylag, 36 Canada Geese, 53 Shelduck, 82 Teal, 4 Gadwall, 4 Shoveler, 10 Tufted Duck, 2 Pochard and a female Red-crested Pochard, the latter feeding in front of the Harrier Hide.

Waders included 15 Oystercatcher, 5 Avocet, 37 Black-tailed Godwit, Ringed Plover and 2 Green Sandpiper.

A few Siskin were noteworthy near the Kingfisher Hide. At least one Common Tern this morning and Kingfisher from the Ron Barker Hide.

Raptors included 3 Common Buzzard, 2 Marsh Harrier, 2 Kestrel and Sparrowhawk. Barn Owl early on.
