Sunday Viewing

Chilly again but with light winds making it less cold than it could be. A couple of counts put the Whooper Swan numbers on 1200 and Pink-footed Geese down to 6700. Most of the Whooper Swan are feeding off the reserve at the moment.

Jam packed with wildfowl making the search for the Green-winged Teal difficult.

Two Golden Plover were note worthy addition to the wader count with c1500 Lapwing, 50+ Ruff, 20+ Snipe and a few Black-tailed Godwit.

Three Kingfisher seen today. Stonechats out on the fence posts across the reserve.

Tawny Owl seen roosting.

As usual it should be possible to see at least 50 species of bird in a day without too much effort, although a telescope is very useful from most of the hides.

If you are visiting the reserve, pop in to the in focus shop (next to the Discovery Hide) where we have a full list of birds, and should be able to point you in the right direction to get the most out of your visit.
