The beast of Martin Mere!

Well maybe not, maybe they are Carp after all, recently reported on a couple of occasions as Otters and in the past as 'the beast of martin mere' on hot summer days especially, the resident Carp are quite obvious as they patrol around near the surface with sometimes as many as 8-10 on view. Today was one such day, with one seen fully leaping out of the water as well!

On to the bird news, at least 7 Ruff today with 6 Black tailed Godwit and a growing number of Lapwings, the flock now numbering around 400 birds. From Ron Barker Hide a couple of Redshank, 2-3 Common Snipe, 2 Little ringed Plover, Common Sandpiper and 2 Avocet.

Several Common Buzzard, 3+ Kestrel and Sparrowhawk were seen.

A few Dragonflies included Brown Hawker, Black tailed Skimmer, with several species of Butterfly,  Gatekeeper, Comma, Small Tortoiseshell, Peacock and Red Admiral.
