Café kitchen closure

From 8–17 September, our café kitchen will be closed for refurbishment. During this time, our front-of-house will remain open, offering a selection of cakes and ice cream, sandwiches, and drinks. You will also be able to visit our kiosks by the play areas.

Too Sunny...

I know what your thinking, it's not that this last blast of summer isn't without it's benefits but a few showers moving through would be bound to bring some new birds onto the reserve.

Best report of the day goes to Curlew Sandpiper which was seen from the Ron Barker Hide. Waders present included 60+ Common Snipe, 20+ Ruff and 15+ Black-tailed Godwit.

No shortage of raptors to get the Lapwing moving with Merlin, Peregrine, 3 Marsh Harrier, 5+ Common Buzzard, Sparrowhawk and 2 Kestrel.

Belated news of a Ruddy Duck from Thursday.

Worth noting that the 2011 Lancashire Bird Report is now available at £6 from the in focus shop. Essential reading for anyone interested in birds in the county.
