Hide closure: Sunday 9 November

No access to Ron Barker, Hale and Mere View Hides
Unfortunately, we have had a recent case of avian influenza, commonly known as bird flu, in our collection birds. To prevent further spread of the disease, we are putting in place some additional protection measures, which includes testing the birds in our duckery. To allow our teams the time and space to do this, we’ve temporarily closed this part of the wetland reserve and will reopen on Monday 10 November.

Wednesday Newsflash !!

After an early "false start" last week when 2 birds flew over, the first Whooper Swans of the season finally arrived back at Martin Mere this morning, with 20 birds on the Mere by lunchtime.

Also on the Mere today, Kingfisher and 5,000+ Pink-footed Geese.

From the Janet Kear hide, Nuthatch and Willow Tit, and a Bullfinch from the Kingfisher hide.

There hasn't been much change over the past few days, so check back to previous posts for other noteworthy birds on site, and don't forget to let the guys at the In Focus shop know of anything of interest you may have seen.

Hopefully, we'll have a more comprehensive report tomorrow.
