Hide closure: Sunday 9 November

No access to Ron Barker, Hale and Mere View Hides
Unfortunately, we have had a recent case of avian influenza, commonly known as bird flu, in our collection birds. To prevent further spread of the disease, we are putting in place some additional protection measures, which includes testing the birds in our duckery. To allow our teams the time and space to do this, we’ve temporarily closed this part of the wetland reserve and will reopen on Monday 10 November.

Woodcock

More signs of winter in this late autumn period with the arrival of a Woodcock, seen well from the Janet Kear Hide late afternoon. The Janet Kear Hide is historically the best spot to catch up with this well camouflaged woodland wader. Also Brambling from there too.

The morning count of Whooper Swan hit 1680 with 6500 Pink-footed Geese present.

Another good raptor day with male Hen Harrier, Merlin, Peregrine, 3 Common Buzzard, Sparrowhawk and Kestrel. Barn Owl out hunting late afternoon.

Yellowhammer along the reserve boundary from the Reed Bed Walk.
