The Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust (WWT), Slimbridge are looking to recruit volunteers to help support exciting new developments at the visitor attraction over the next two years.
Slimbridge Wetland Centre is an award winning attraction with 325 hectares of world class wetland. It offers visitors first-class wildlife encounters from hand feeding ducks, geese and swans, to watching otters at their daily feeds.
Thanks to support from the Heritage Lottery Fund, Slimbridge Wetland Centre are developing nine new exciting and immersive wildlife experiences to help visitors get even closer to nature.
Some of the new developments launching over the next few years include opening the home of WWT founder Sir Peter Scott for visitors to explore, a new 380 seat Living Wetland Theatre where visitors can watch birds flying overhead and a new high level bird hide offering spectacular birdwatching and photography experiences over the Severn Estuary.
Slimbridge is looking for volunteers to help with a variety of roles from welcoming visitors as they arrive, sharing amazing wildlife stories, or getting stuck in outdoors with practical tasks.
Volunteers from all walks of life are welcomed to apply, from students, to adults looking to get back into work, to the retired. The flexible volunteer opportunities range from regular commitments to just few hours and can be adapted to suit your circumstances.
Fran Penny, Visitor Experience Manager said “Whether you are looking to meet new people, learn new skills or spend time in an inspiring environment, there’s a role for you here at Slimbridge”.
Visitors are invited to attend a Volunteer Open Day on Wednesday 13 February and Saturday 2 March, 1pm to 4pm where teams will be on hand to answer all your questions. There will be a chance to hear an introductory talk on volunteering and attend a short guided walk. The event is free and visitors can register an interest in attending online at www.wwt.org.uk/getinvolved
Fran said “Just a few hours volunteering at Slimbridge can make a world of difference to us and to you. Come and be part of something amazing and help to inspire visitors to protect wetlands and their wildlife for future generations to enjoy”.
“To volunteer with us, you don’t need any expert knowledge, just a keen interest in people and wildlife, a flexible approach and a ‘can-do’ attitude.”
To encourage visitors to attend the Volunteer Open Day on 13 February and 2 March there will be a free minibus service from Dursley and Cam to Slimbridge Wetland Centre.
