In Loving Memory of Mr. James

A Tribute To One Of The Oldest Flamingos At WWT Slimbridge

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mr. James, one of the oldest birds at WWT Slimbridge.

Mr. James was the only remaining James' flamingo in the UK and has brought joy to our dedicated staff and volunteers, as well as the countless visitors of all ages since 1965.

Mr. James was approximately 65 years old when he recently started to show signs of his old age. Our animal care and veterinary team increased welfare checks and did all they could to support him but unfortunately a change in his condition led to the difficult decision to prevent him from suffering any further.

Mr. James' life with us has been a remarkable testament to the exceptional commitment to animal care and husbandry practiced at WWT Slimbridge. Over the years, generations of dedicated aviculturists and vets have provided unwavering care and support to ensure Mr. James lived a long and fulfilled life.

Mr. James was more than just a resident at Slimbridge; he was an ambassador for the beauty and diversity of the natural world. His enduring spirit will continue to inspire our ongoing flamingo husbandry, reminding us of the importance of safeguarding our wetland wildlife for generations to come.
