Summer Walkway
We are hoping to open the Summer Walkway as soon as possible. We have been monitoring a crane who has been using the area as a safe place whilst it moults. At this time of year, non-breeding cranes can start to moult and become completely flightless for a few weeks as they regrow their flight and tail feathers. They do this so they will be in top condition for the coming winter. This is a very energy demanding and stressful time, so the birds seek out quiet areas and take refuge in ditches and reeded channels. To reduce stress to this flightless crane we have delayed the opening of the walkway. We will post updates on the Latest Sightings blog and make an announcement once the walkway opened. We would like to thank you for your understanding.
