Arts & Crafts Weekend

Discover a dazzling line-up of dragonfly-themed events and activities at WWT Slimbridge this summer.

Festival goers, young and young-at-heart can come together and celebrate the long summer days. Head to our festival hub in the Visitor Centre to find out what’s on during your visit and mark the start of your great adventure. Colourful flags fly high and welcome you into the vibrant festival atmosphere.

Dragonfly Kite Making | Friday 8 - Sunday 10 August

Let your imagination take flight! As part of WWT Slimbridge's first Dragonfly Festival, you can build your very own fantastic flyer, inspired by the amazing colours and aerial skills of dragonflies.

We’ll guide you through the design and build step by step, making sure you have a beautiful kite to take home and fly.

Led by Community Kite Project, enjoy family workshops where you can create your own unique dragonfly kite to treasure and soar through the skies!

Duration: 90 minutes

Place: The Peng Observatory

Cost: £5 per child or per kite made (plus admission ticket, if you are not a WWT member)

All children must be accompanied by an adult. The recommended age for participants is 8+, but with adult supervision younger children can take part.

  • Friday 8 August, 1pm
  • Friday 8 August, 3pm (quiet session – limited spaces). This session is designed especially for neurodivergent families or those who prefer a calmer environment. Spaces are very limited to ensure a peaceful, supportive experience. To book a place on the quiet session, please select the 3pm Friday slot.
  • Saturday 9 August & Sunday 10 August, 11am, 1pm & 3pm

Finger paint a dragonfly | Saturday 9 & Sunday 10 August

Feeling inspired? Get creative and celebrate the magic of dragonflies with a fun, hands on art activity. Fly into our Art Hub and finger paint your very own dragonfly masterpiece. Did you know there are over 3,000 species of dragonfly in the world? Why not make your own, using our recycled materials. Decorate your own dragonfly wings or craft a stunning stained glass dragonfly of dreams.

Drop in and join in, included in admission ticket and free to WWT members.
