Bird News

Rather grey but most of the 'weather' held off til late afternoon. Very mild in the strong southerlies.

Some counts across the reserve included 2000+ Pink-footed Geese, 51 Canada, 560 Greylag, 560+ Shelduck, 400+ Wigeon, 3000+ Teal, 40 Shoveler, 32 Pochard, 25 Tufted Duck, 200+ Pintail, 23 Gadwall and 1000+ Whopper Swan roosting.

The usual raptors showed with 2 Marsh Harrier, 2 Peregrine, 4 Common Buzzard and Sparrowhawk.

A good count of Ruff with 86 birds, also 1100+ Lapwing.

Fourty five Greenfinch at the Janet Kear hide was notable.
