Greenland White-fronted Goose
Another fine autumn day with plenty of activity around the reserve. A definite influx of wildfowl is occurring with increasing numbers of Wigeon, Teal and Pintail. Three Whooper Swan were seen to fly over the reserve mid morning but were not relocated. These would be some of the earliest recorded. Only 500 Pink-footed Geese roosted on the reserve although numbers built up in the afternoon to over 3000 including a fine adult Greenland White-fronted Goose.
Plenty of raptor action with 3 Marsh Harrier, 4 Common Buzzard, 3 Kestrel, Peregrine and Sparrowhawk.
The waders were a little jumpy with the harriers present but included 600+ Lapwing, 26 Ruff, 3 Black-tailed Godwit, 2 Dunlin, 30+ Snipe.
Other birds included Kingfishers, Goldcrest along the nature trail, Stonechat and some movements of hirundines (Swallow and House Martin), wagtails, Skylark and Meadow Pipit.
