Hobby
A good day for birds of prey, the elusive Hobby was seen again, also at least 5 Marsh Harriers including another wing tagged bird, with green tags on each wing and this time from Norfolk! Lots of sightings of Sparrowhawk with 3-4 birds probably involved and 8+ Common Buzzard and a few Kestrels. A good showing for crows today with 6 species being seen including 1 Raven and small numbers of Rooks and Jackdaws around as well as at least 4 Jays.
We still have a good selection of waders on show, though there was no further sightings of the Pectoral Sandpiper, there are still 5 Curlew Sandpiper, 1 Little Stint, 2 Dunlin, 1 Ringed Plover, 1 Oystercatcher, 50+ Ruff, 30 Common Snipe and 5+ Black tailed Godwit.
An autumnal feel to the day with a steady passage of Meadow Pipits, several Grey Wagtails, Sand Martin and Swallows flying south. Also at least 10+ Chiffchaffs on site mainly along the reed bed walk along with Goldcrest, Sedge and Reed Warbler still. Further adding to the autumnal feel were the 700+ Pink footed Geese using the reserve throughout the day.
