Swallow and Sedge Warbler
Two new summering species arrived today with 10 Swallow seen and a singing Sedge Warbler on Woodend Marsh. Twenty four Sand Martin logged today. The Sedge Warbler maybe Lancashire's first this year.
Again a broad selection of species to be found around the reserve. Waders present included 88 Avocet, 100+ Lapwing, 40 Ruff, 20 Black-tailed Godwit, 20+ Oystercatcher, 12 Redshank, 6+ Common Snipe and Curlew.
Nineteen Whooper Swan this morning, wildfowl included small numbers of Wigeon, Teal, Pintail, Gadwall, Pochard, Tufted Duck, Shelduck, Mallard and 39 Shoveler.
Merlin late afternoon. A new Marsh Harrier was in today. At least 8 Common Buzzard, Sparrowhawk and Kestrel.
Chiffchaffs and Blackcaps singing.
Stoat showing well from the Ron Barker Hide and Brown Hares around the reserve.
