Autumn sunshine

Zeiss Hide/Top New Piece

A good selection of waders in the warm autumn sunshine today, a late season juvenile Little-ringed Plover joined 7 Ringed Plover, 13 Snipe, 29 Ruff, 212 Lapwing, 1 Red Knot, 1 Curlew Sandpiper, 10 Little Stint, Spotted Redshank, 226 Dunlin, Green Sandpiper and 536 Teal. The Black-tailed Godwits and Redshank also moved here to feed today.

South Lake

57 Shoveler, 112 Teal, 53 Mlaard, 131 Tufted Duck, Avocet, 249 Black-tailed Godwit, 3 Red Knot, 4 Ruff, 24 Redshank, 136 Lapwing, 2 Curlew Sandpiper, 12 Snipe, 1 Dunlin, and 8 Pochard among the highlights.

Rushy Pen

Spotted Redshank and Little ringed Plover seen with a Ruff. 102 Mallard, 12 Lapwing, 2 Little Grebe, 26 Tufted Duck, 14 Coot, 28 Moorhen, 4 Shoveler.

Holden Tower

Two Marsh Harriers, Wheatear, 2 Stonechat, Song Thrush, Blackbird, Song and Mistle Thrush and Redwing.

    Two Hooper Swans were seen at my local reserve Kenfig NNR South Wales on Friday. wonder if one flew down to you ? đŸ™‚

      Hi Sandra, whooper swans are unusual on the Severn Estuary but with the recent strong winds coming from Iceland there have been small numbers of sightings in the Midlands and South West England so it’s definitely not impossible!
