Local Primary School Gets First Splash at WWT Martin Mere’s Brand-New Paddle and Play Area
On Friday 16 May, pupils from Lordsgate Township C.E. Primary School were among the first to make a splash at the brand-new Paddle and Play area at WWT Martin Mere Wetland Centre, near Southport.
The after-school visit gave the children an exclusive first look at the exciting new wet play space ahead of its official opening during May half term (from 24 May 2025).
Approximately 60 children of all ages explored a range of exciting features over two hours, from in-ground trampolines and hand-operated water pumps to swings and slides.
Victoria Fellowes, Visitor Experience Manager at WWT Martin Mere, said:
"It was a joy to see the children’s faces light up as they discovered each part of the new play area.
“Seeing the space busy with children playing for the first time was incredible. A huge thank you to Lordsgate Primary School for helping us bring it to life ahead of opening!"
The Paddle and Play area includes the wet play, Canoe Safari, and den building and inspires children to connect with nature through fun and engaging experiences.
Families keen to be among the first to experience the new attraction this May half term can book tickets online and enjoy 10% off admission. Entry to the wet play area is included with general admission or membership, while the Canoe Safari is available for an additional fee.
