Experience the haunting sound and the thrill of an early morning hide visit with a warden with our Dawn Flights event.
This October, join us for an early morning visit to our hide to watch as the sun rises and thousands of pink-footed geese set off in a honking fluffy.
Take a seat in our hide with a warden and see the mere as it’s packed full of migrating birds. With the expert knowledge of our team, you’ll find out more about the different species that can be seen on our reserve over the colder months and watch and listen as the area comes alive first thing.
Then, you'll finish the experience off with a full English breakfast in our Mere Side Café.

FAQs
Does this ticket include admission to WWT Martin Mere?
This is an out-of-hours event which only covers your entry for the duration of the event with access to the designated hide. If you are wishing to stay after your breakfast to explore the centre more, you will need to purchase additional admission tickets unless you are a WWT member. Please note, if you are staying, you must remain in the cafe until 9:30am when our Living Collection and reserve open.
Do WWT members go free?
As this is a standalone event, the cost will apply to WWT members too and tickets must be booked. This is to help us to cover any expenses it takes to run the event.
What if I have any dietary requirements?
If you have any dietary requirements, please email info.martinmere@wwt.org.uk before the event. We offer vegan and gluten-free options but will need to know in advance.
Is this event accessible?
The hides are located close to the centre’s main entrance, meaning they are only a few minutes walk away from when you arrive. Additionally, they are wheelchair friendly with level access and paved pathways leading up to them. However, you will be arriving in dark conditions, so please carefully follow our wardens to the destination.
Is this event suitable for children?
As this event requires participants to sit quietly for a few hours as to not spook the birds on the mere, we recommend that this event is not suitable for any children under the age of 8.
Where do we meet on the day?
Please arrive on our car park at least 5 minutes before the event to ensure that the event can start on time. All of your booking information will be included on your email confirmation when you purchase your tickets.
Terms & Conditions
- No refund will be given if you do not attend on the morning. If you cannot attend, you must notify us at least 48 hours before the event to be issued a refund.
- If the event is cancelled due to bad weather conditions we will endeavour to move you to an alternative date or issue a refund.
- This ticket does not include admission to Martin Mere. If you wish to explore Martin Mere’s grounds and reserve after this event and you’re not a member of WWT, you’ll need to purchase admission tickets separately.
- Martin Mere does not officially open until 9:30am, if you would like to explore Martin Mere after the event, you will need to remain in the cafe until the grounds and reserve open.
