Café kitchen closure

From 8–17 September, our café kitchen will be closed for refurbishment. During this time, our front-of-house will remain open, offering a selection of cakes and ice cream, sandwiches, and drinks. You will also be able to visit our kiosks by the play areas.

A record count of 111 adult Avocet for the reserve this morning. I think we have recorded more birds (~120) when there have been chicks about. Other wader counts included 200+ Lapwing, 50 Curlew, 42 Oystercatcher, 35 Black-tailed Godwit, 20+ Ruff, 10 Redshank and 6 Ringed Plover.

A ring-tailed Hen Harrier flew north through the reserve around midday. At least 4 Common Buzzard on the wing, 2 Marsh Harrier, Kestrel and Sparrowhawk.

Eleven Whooper Swan still present and the odd small groups of Pink-footed Geese. Locally there are over a 1000 Pink's present and a couple of Bean Geese still with them.

The Tree Sparrows are very active around the nest boxes at the moment.
