Dropping The Levels

As main mass of winter birds have departed, the water levels on the Mere are now being lowered. This normally takes around 4 days. The shallower water and exposed mud is excellent habitat for breeding and passage waders.

Adult male Hen Harrier this afternoon, also female/imm Marsh Harrier and 4+ Common Buzzard.

Siberian Chiffchaff singing this morning in the hedgerow opposite the last viewing platform closest to the Sewage Works along the Reed Bed Walk.

A few Common Chiffchaff singing around the reserve and a male Blackcap in song near the Kingfisher Hide is probably a migrant new in.

A lazy description I know, but similar waders to yesterday, which were similar to the day before!
