Hide closure: Sunday 9 November

No access to Ron Barker, Hale and Mere View Hides
Unfortunately, we have had a recent case of avian influenza, commonly known as bird flu, in our collection birds. To prevent further spread of the disease, we are putting in place some additional protection measures, which includes testing the birds in our duckery. To allow our teams the time and space to do this, we’ve temporarily closed this part of the wetland reserve and will reopen on Monday 10 November.

Great White Egret

A Great White Egret was seen in flight from the Reedbed walk area in the morning which is the first sighting of the year of this species, also at least 2 Little Egret around today. The other first sighting was of a Hobby in flight over Vinson's Marsh from Ron Barker Hide this afternoon. Also Teal and Shoveler from Ron Barker.

Still up to 4 Mediterranean Gulls on and off all day on the Mere, and Common Terns feeding young.

A few Linnet's around the edge of the Mere and by Kingfisher Hide along with juvenile Robin, Blackcap and Chiffchaff.

Good numbers of Lapwing starting to build up with c250 in flight over Woodend Marsh.

A group of 4 Raven were circling high over the Duckery area mid afternoon.

A melanistic (excess of dark pigment) Mallard from Harrier Hide also Cormorant here.
