Thursday 11 and Friday 12 December

Some of our birds will be off display on Thursday 11 and Friday 12 December, while vets carry out some routine health checks. If you would still like to visit us on these days, admission tickets will only be available on arrival and will be reduced to £10 an adult and £5 a child.

Pink-footed Arrivals and Hen Harrier again

Late afternoon and the sound of Pink-footed Geese dropping in makes for a good end to the day and doubled the number recent seen on the reserve.

Twenty six birds could easily end up as 26,000 by the end of the month

Another overcast start with a little sun breaking through into the afternoon. The ringtail Hen Harrier showed well around midday. Three Marsh Harrier again including the adult male. Also 3 Buzzard, 2 Kestrel, Peregrine and Sparrowhawk.

On the wader front 500+ Lapwing, 46 Ruff, 30+ Snipe, 14 Black-tailed Godwit, Redshank and 2 Green Sandpiper today.

A Great-crested Grebe on the Mere was unusual.

Passage of Meadow Pipit over and a couple of Yellow Wagtail.

A Nuthatch on the 30th August was new for the year on the reserve.
